If You Run Out of Sugar

If run out of brown sugar or white sugar, alternative sugars are available. These are some of the many substitutes you can choose from. These are also recommended alternative sugars that are natural and healthy for you.

  1. Jaggery – is in powder form and can be used as alternative sugar in everyday diet. It is rich in mineral content and perfect for constipation and indigestion.
  2. Stevia- a three hundred folds sweeter than sugar kind of herb. It has naturally low calories and carbohydrates. It is a preferable alternative sugar for people with diabetes mellitus and those trying to lose weight.
  3. Sugarcane juice- an ideal and natural source of alternative white sugar.
  4. Dates – alternative brown sugar ideally to be added in desserts but not directly to coffee, tea and etc.. It is rich in potassium, calcium and vitamin B6.
  5. Raw honey- a preferable alternative sweetener that is sweeter than sugar, hence it is use in a lesser quantity. It is known to have antifungal, antibacterial and antimicrobial properties.
  6. Molasses- the residue of sugarcane from the traditional process of refining sugar into white sugar. It is rich in iron, calcium, potassium, magnesium and vitamin B6.
  7. Agave nectar – it is intensely sweet, hence it is use in lesser amount. It is known to be the source of tequila and it has a much low glycemic content.
  8. Palm sugar- it is made from saps of date, sugar date palm trees or palmyra palm. The sap is tapped then boiled to produce a syrup. It is being used as dessert topping in some countries.
  9. Brown rice syrup – it is produce from boiling brown sugar which is mostly wheat and gulten free. It is ideal for pancake, salads, health bar and muffins.
  10. Mapple syrup- it is rich in antioxidants and low calories which is ideal alternative sweeter not only for pancakes but also in coffee.
  11. Coconut sugar- a natural alternative for traditional sugar and artificial sweeteners that can be derived from extracted sap of coconut. It is boiled then dehydrated to produce granules which are known as coconut sugar. It is low in glycemic index and has antioxidants, calcium, zinc, iron and potassium.
  12. Fruit juice- is a natural source of sugar. Although it cannot be added to coffee and tea, it is ideal to be added to cookies and cakes.
