According to Yahoo! News, lack of sleep is bad for
our genes. Studies have shown that if we practice the habit of lack of sleep,
it has a potential harmful effect on the gene expression.
The effects of lack of sleep are:
- Damaging effects on our genes
- Can result to heart disease, cognitive impairment, and obesity
Sleep researcher Derk-Jan Dijk and his fellow
researchers have found that sleep six hours or less a night for a week affects
the expression of some 711 genes including those involved in inflammation,
immunity, and stress response.
A normal night sleep a day for a healthy adult is
between seven and eight hours.
